Sorry for not posting in forever, I will definitely start posting more from now on.
Quick recap of the last 9 months or so…Busted the WSOP main event early on day 2, then went home to Phoenix and basically did not much of anything for about a month, just hung out with the family mostly. Finally in mid-August I decided to get off my butt and start going into Casino Arizona to play some cash games. It didn’t start off well as I lost like 30k the first few weeks playing 75-150 mix, and also I just hated going in. It was a 40 minute drive from my house and then if I didn’t get there at the right time I could have to wait several hours before a seat would open up. So I basically started going in like once or twice a week until December. I did start running better and probably ended up winning like 20k or so in those games by then, but I still wasn’t really enjoying myself and really was never feeling motivated at all.
Deb, Cooper, and I went to Bahamas in January for PCA and while we were there we decided that we would try moving somewhere so I could play online poker again. We ended up picking Vancouver mostly because it seemed like the closest place we could go that was a nice city to raise a family in. So in late January we went on a 6 day “vacation” here to look around and see if Vancouver is where we want to relocate to. We knew pretty much instantly that we wanted to come here (despite the cold weather, which really isn’t all that bad here most of the time) and so we began our journey to find a place to live. The first day we looked at about 5 condos in downtown and there were a couple that were decent but none that we were in love with. On the 2nd day we found a great place in Coal Harbour which is one of the nicest parts of town with tons of restaurants and parks and really pretty much anything you could want within short walking distance, plus this view from my office:
We closed on that place the same day with a move in date of February 20 and now had 4 days to explore Vancouver which was really fun. We mostly just walked around everywhere looking at all the downtown areas and seeing which areas we like, and we took Coop to Stanley Park and the aquarium which he really enjoyed. We got pretty lucky with the weather on those days as it wasn’t terribly cold and was even sunny some of the time.
After that we went back to Phoenix for a few weeks to gather our stuff and also because we were having a party for Cooper`s first birthday. We also got some pictures done on his birthday right before we left again for Vancouver:
We then decided to give him a cupcake to see what he would do with it:
He was having none of it. :) So daddy did the one thing that is sure to cheer him up:
A few days later it was off to Vancouver for the next stage of our lives. We were both very excited, not only for me to be able to play poker again, but it also just seemed like a great opportunity to live somewhere else. I had lived in the Phoenix area for 28 years and Deb had for about 10.
So we packed up the baby and the dog (and some clothes) and headed to Vancouver. We were a little worried about customs since I had heard a few horror stories of some poker players being denied entry, but our border experience couldn`t have been easier. The only things the border patrol guy asked for were our lease and Peanut`s rabies shot certificate. The whole process took maybe 5 minutes.
So we got in on a Monday, and I had lots to do to get set up. I had to buy a new computer and a desk, and open a bank account, and a few other little things before I could get back playing on PokerStars. The whole process was pretty easy though and by Friday I was up and running.
Vancouver started off as a very lucky city. On my first Sunday back I final tabled the Sunday Million for $12k and also got 3rd in the nightly $162 for around $7500. Unfortunately the rungood pretty much ended there:
It isn`t nearly as bad as it looks when you include the money I get from earning VPPs. I`m actually probably ahead a little when all that is included since I have earned about 390k VPP so far since I`ve been here. It`s still obviously been pretty frustrating the last couple weeks or so.
I actually have 938k VPP credited to me so far this year since my VPP from last year carried over because of Black Friday. I should become the first SupernovaElite of 2012 sometime this week, although I`m not sure it should really count since I got half the VPPs last year, but hey this is my blog and I can count it if I feel like it.
